Just recently, I saw the movie “The Greatest Showman”. The music was inspiring and I left the theater feeling like a dreamer again. Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to change the world, to travel as much as possible and to help those in great need. I’ve always been a dreamer. I wanted to be an actress or a missionary in an exotic country. I wanted a family. Aren’t we all dreamers though, deep down? Ask any child what their dreams are for their future and I’m sure most children would spout off grand plans.
Something happens though as we get older. Sometimes we get rejected, we get beat down, we get jaded. Or reality can get in the way of our dreams. Maybe we’ve always dreamed of having a family but the right person just hasn’t come into our lives. Or you’ve always wanted children and the doctor said it can’t happen. Or maybe your dream did come true, and it was snatched from you in an instant, and you ended up burying your dream.
Or maybe we are too afraid of taking risks. In the movie, Hugh Jackman’s character says, “Ah comfort, the enemy of progress.” Because as we become adults, we realize our dreams might take more work than we originally imagined. I was encouraged, however, because P.T. Barnum didn’t even start his famous circus until he was 60 years old. That’s so inspiring to me. Our dreams might look different or change as we get older, and that’s ok, just don’t stop dreaming.
To those who have been through something so heartbreaking you’ve never thought you could dream again, it’s ok. Let yourself DREAM AGAIN.
Never stop dreaming. Never stop hoping. I don’t think God ever wants us to get too comfortable. Progress happens when we push ourselves out of our comfort zones. This year, let yourself dream again and maybe, just maybe, some of them might come true.
