I didn’t have a ton of time to recap some of my fun in Omaha, so I’m doing it now.
What’s funny is it’s taken me actually moving away from Omaha to find some of the best places Omaha has to offer. This is interesting to me. Maybe moving away has caused me to be more adventurous. OR, I just have time to do things beyond running errands and cleaning. Either way, here’s what I’ve discovered this week.
Omaha’s very own – Anchor Inn. While it may seem a bit of a dive from first glance, I assure you it is not. They regularly host concerts of all sorts and people of all ages (that’s always my favorite part).
I love hanging out with people that are older, wiser and more mature than me. I also think biker-types are fun. This place has a mix of the two.
They’ve also got a special drink called, the “Watermelon.” I have no idea what’s in it, but it’s rumored to be too strong to have more than four. I think I can take that challenge on someday and win (feel free to share your experiences with the Inn or the Watermelon below)…
Now, some of you may be wondering, “Erica, just how did you find the Anchor Inn?” Well – let me tell you it was an interesting experience.
After leaving work around 6 p.m. (in Lincoln) on Friday evening, I decided I needed my favorite appetizer from M’s Pub – the M’s Renowned Baked Mushrooms (tons of garlic and cheese and O. So. Good.) While sitting at the bar eating my dinner, I met a very nice couple – Marcia and Brett. I proceeded to have great conversation with this couple (a pair of grandparents from Iowa with eight grandchildren) over dinner at the bar. Here we discussed the great details of the Anchor Inn and all that I was missing out on.
I was quite intrigued about this place, so no doubt when offered an invitation to stop by the “inn” later, I took them up on it. Now, I know it’s not good to hang out with strangers – especially in places where you know no one (and at a place that serves up something like a watermelon). But I thought it might be a kick, so I decided to go.
The live music was great. The dancing was fun and the river was flooded. I’d definitely go back anytime it’s warm outside (not so much in the winter, but let me know if I’m wrong there). It’s also a place I don’t mind going to on my own. Which bumps it up a notch in my book. It would be so much more fun with Nick by my side, but I’m still proud of the fact that I like to do things on my own as a married woman.
Anyway.. ‘nough said about the Anchor Inn Omaha. It’s a great place and is worth the trip – even if just for a watermelon.
